Tabletop Clinics - Saturday Afternoon (see schedule page)
Tabletop clinics provide an opportunity to engage with expert modellers as they demonstrate their techniques. Multiple tabletop clinics take place simultaneously in the same room, allowing people to move between presentation at will. It’s an informal format and can be “demonstration/lecture” style or “hands on” with viewer participation. Lots of opportunity to ask questions and get involved.
Clinics are listed alphabetically, by Presenter / Clinician

Moscrop Secondary Student Presentations
In 2019, teacher Aidan Botting started something new at Moscrop Secondary School in Burnaby, BC. He implemented a Model Railroad course as part of the Art program, something never before done in Canada.

The Learning Objective was to build and operate an HO scale model railroad layout capable of running a train. Everything needed to accomplish the task was left to the students, under Aidan’s guidance.

The young adults acquired skills and knowledge in wood working, plaster work, painting, scenery, fabrication, and basic electricity and, most significantly, problem solving. Each student brought their own talents and interests to the program and they learned from each other, while creating and then expanding the layout in subsequent years.

Aidan’s 2023-24 students have very kindly offered to share some of their individual projects with us as Tabletop presentations on Saturday afternoon and we are looking forward to meeting them.

The article, by Ben Nelms of the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC), is primarily about 7th Division stalwart Master Model Railroader (MMR) Mike Chandler and his Western Midland Railroad. It’s an interesting take on the current status of model railroading.

A description of the Moscrop Secondary program begins under: “A never-ending puzzle of never-ending pieces”, situated about half-way down the page.
